Brief description
According to the Decision of the European Commission No. 576/2013, any citizen of Ukraine or a foreign citizen who plans to cross the border with a domestic animal (dog, cat, ferret) must examine it for the presence of post-vaccination antibodies to the rabies virus in a laboratory that has the appropriate authority .
Authorization
The State Scientific Control Institute of Biotechnology and Strains of Microorganisms is authorized by the European Commission https://food.ec.europa.eu and the State Production and Consumer Service of Ukraine https://dpss.gov.ua for carrying out such research.

Blood for the examination of domestic animals must be collected by a veterinarian at least 30 days after vaccination and no earlier than 3 months before transporting the animal to the countries of the European Union (in accordance with Decision of the European Commission No. 576/2013), for more information, please follow the link. The volume of the collected blood should be at least – 1,5-3,0 ml from the animal to obtain 0,5-1,0 ml of plasma or serum after settling or centrifugation. Samples of whole blood, plasma or serum are accepted for the study. Blood sampling from the animal is carried out regardless of food intake.
The blood must be delivered within 3 hours from the moment of its selection, provided it is transported in a thermal container with a cooler. If it is not possible to deliver blood within 3 hours, it is necessary to obtain plasma or serum in a volume of at least 0,5 ml. Plasma or serum must be delivered within 2 days, provided that it is stored and transported at a temperature 4 – 8 °С. If it is not possible to deliver within 48 hours, the serum or plasma sample is frozen at a temperature of minus 20 °С. The sample should not be subjected to repeated thawing and freezing, as this may affect the result.
The color of the serum or plasma should be from light yellow to pink (slight hemolysis is allowed, but transparency should be maintained).
The following are not accepted for research: samples from animals without identification (chip), cloudy samples of serum or plasma, with signs of strong hemolysis (dark red color) or in insufficient volume!

- A photocopy (all completed pages) of the animal’s international passport (including the pages marked with identification (chip number) and vaccinations).
- A copy of the first page of the foreign passport of the owner of the animal or the person accompanying the animal during transportation.
